Telephone Answering Machines Go Digital

The need for telephone answering machines is not what it used to be.

Many phone companies now offer voice mail, which bypasses the need to have an extra machine sitting by your phone to pick up messages. Some people don’t like the voice mail system though, and they prefer to buy telephone answering machines to use at home so they are sure a lost message is their own fault, and not the result of a malfunction at the phone company.

Telephone answering machines have come a long way. It used to be that you had to have a small audiotape in your machine, and you had to replace it on a regular basis. They would wear out fast, and at times, they snapped. When this happened, you lost all of your messages and there was no way to get them back.

Newer telephone answering machines are digital, and no tape is required. They also save your information if the power goes out.

Even better, there are many great features on telephone answering machines that you just cannot get with voicemail. Voicemail may alert you to messages with a beeping light, but this can be easy to miss, while some answering machines will beep. Some also have a feature that works great with your caller ID system. There are telephone answering machines that will actually say the number that is calling out loud so you can hear it. If you are on the other side of the house when someone calls, this can be a huge blessing.

If you are looking at telephone answering machines, you have to decide which type will work best for you. You can get a model that will stand-alone. It plugs into your existing phone, and most are compatible with every single phone brand there is. You can also get telephone answering machines that come as one unit with a phone included. This can save you space, and allows you to get rid of some of the extra cords lying around your home. If you can find telephone answering machines that come with two handsets, you can save a lot of money, and have an extra handset for anywhere else in your house.

Look for a good price on telephone answering machines by shopping around both locally and online. Most brands will work well, but if you have a certain brand of electronics that you find to be exceptionally reliable, you might find that they make telephone answering machines as well. If they do, your shopping just got a whole lot easier.
